Grand Theft Auto VI is getting very close.
After years of leaks, rumors and trailer breakdowns, Rockstar Games has now shown its most extensive official look at GTA 6 yet. The nearly 27-minute Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, released on August 27, was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 and gives us our clearest look yet at Jason, Lucia, Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
More importantly, Rockstar has confirmed the release date, platforms, pre-orders, pricing, preload date and several major locations.
Here is everything officially confirmed about GTA 6 as of August 2026, along with what Rockstar still hasn’t announced.

When Does GTA 6 Come Out?
The GTA 6 release date is November 19, 2026.
Rockstar previously delayed the game to give the development team additional time for polishing, but November 19 remains the official launch date.
GTA 6 will launch on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X
- Xbox Series S
Digital preloading begins on November 12, 2026, giving players a full week to download the game before launch.
There is currently no announced PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version.
GTA 6 Extended Look Gives Us Our Best Look at the Game Yet
Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026.
Running for nearly 27 minutes, the presentation is considerably more substantial than the previous GTA 6 trailers.
Most importantly, Rockstar says the entire presentation was captured from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5.
That distinction matters.
Instead of relying on a pre-rendered cinematic trailer, the presentation shows what Rockstar’s new version of Leonida actually looks like inside the game.
The footage focuses heavily on Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos while moving between criminal operations, everyday life and different parts of Leonida.
There are also glimpses of actual gameplay situations including:
- shootouts
- police pursuits
- driving
- exploration
- basketball
- scuba diving
- interactions around the open world
Rockstar still hasn’t explained every gameplay system in detail, so it would be premature to assume that every action shown in the presentation will function as a full standalone mechanic.
But visually, this is by far the clearest picture we’ve received of GTA 6 so far.
Jason and Lucia Are GTA 6’s Main Characters
GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
Their relationship appears to be at the heart of the story.
Jason grew up around criminals and scammers before spending time in the Army. After leaving the military, he eventually ended up working with drug runners in the Leonida Keys.
Lucia’s story begins after time spent in Leonida Penitentiary.
The pair become caught in a much larger criminal conspiracy after what was supposed to be a relatively simple score goes wrong.
Rockstar’s trailers and promotional material repeatedly present Jason and Lucia as a team rather than completely separate protagonists.
Their dynamic has obvious Bonnie-and-Clyde influences, but Rockstar appears to be building a much larger story around them.
Where Does GTA 6 Take Place?
GTA 6 takes place in the fictional US state of Leonida, Rockstar’s interpretation of Florida.
The most famous location is, of course, Vice City.
But GTA 6 is much bigger than Vice City alone.
Rockstar has officially revealed several regions:
Vice City
The modern version of Rockstar’s Miami-inspired city.
Beaches, nightlife, hotels, skyscrapers, highways and dense urban streets form the center of GTA 6’s world.
Leonida Keys
A tropical chain of islands inspired by the Florida Keys.
This is also closely connected to Jason’s background.
Grassrivers
A huge wetland area filled with wildlife, swamps, boats and airboats.
It is clearly inspired by the Florida Everglades.
Port Gellhorn
A rougher coastal area filled with cheap motels, strip malls and abandoned attractions.
Ambrosia
An industrial part of Leonida built around manufacturing and heavy industry.
Mount Kalaga National Park
A completely different environment featuring forests, wilderness and mountainous terrain.
This immediately makes GTA 6’s map appear considerably more geographically diverse than simply recreating Miami.
How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?
This remains one of the biggest unanswered questions.
Rockstar has not revealed the official GTA 6 map or its exact size.
There are countless fan-made maps circulating online based on trailers, coordinates, roads and leaked information, but none should currently be treated as the official map.
What we can say with certainty is that GTA 6 isn’t limited to Vice City.
Rockstar is describing an entire state, with urban centers, islands, swamps, industrial areas, small towns and wilderness.
Exactly how these areas connect — and how large Leonida actually is — remains unknown.
GTA 6 Graphics Look Like a Huge Step Forward
The Extended Look gives us a much better opportunity to examine Rockstar’s new technology.
Some of the most noticeable improvements include the density of crowds, vegetation, water, interior environments, lighting, character animation and traffic.
Vice City in particular appears extremely dense.
Beaches can contain huge numbers of NPCs, streets are packed with vehicles and pedestrians, and interiors appear significantly more detailed than those found in GTA V.
Character animation is another major improvement.
Jason and Lucia display subtle body movements, facial reactions and environmental interactions throughout the footage.
The difference becomes especially obvious during quieter scenes rather than explosions or large action sequences.
If the final game maintains this level of detail across the entire open world, GTA 6 could represent one of Rockstar’s largest technical jumps between generations.
What Gameplay Has Rockstar Actually Shown?
Rockstar still hasn’t released a traditional narrated gameplay demonstration similar to the videos it previously produced for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
However, the Extended Look contains visible gameplay sequences.
We see police chases, gunfights and movement around the world alongside smaller activities.
There are also glimpses of characters interacting with environments in ways that suggest GTA 6 will push further toward the detailed world simulation seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The important thing is separating what we’ve actually seen from speculation.
Rockstar has not yet officially explained:
- the complete wanted system
- weapon inventory mechanics
- vehicle customization
- property ownership
- economy systems
- full character-switching mechanics
- the complete mission structure
Expect considerably more information about these systems as launch approaches.
How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?
The Rockstar Store currently lists the GTA 6 Standard Edition starting at $79.99 in the United States.
Prices will differ between countries and storefronts.
Rockstar is also offering a Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition, which includes additional vehicles, weapons, cosmetic content and other bonuses.
Standard Edition owners will also be able to purchase an Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately.
GTA 6 Pre-Order Bonuses
GTA 6 pre-orders are already available.
Purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack.
The pack contains:
- '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
- outfits and hairstyles
- exclusive weapon pattern
Eligible digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+.
Preloading begins on November 12.
GTA 6 Physical Edition Has No Disc
One of the more unusual details Rockstar has confirmed concerns physical copies.
The physical version of GTA 6 will contain a digital download code inside the box rather than a game disc.
The boxed version becomes available from November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and preload the game before launch.
So while a physical GTA 6 package exists, it isn’t a traditional disc release.
Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?
There is currently no official GTA 6 PC release date.
Rockstar only lists:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
A PC version is widely expected eventually because previous Rockstar titles including GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 reached PC after their console launches.
However, that history isn’t confirmation.
Until Rockstar actually announces GTA 6 for PC, claims about a specific PC release date should be treated as speculation.
Will GTA 6 Be Released on PS4?
There is no announced PS4 version.
The same applies to Xbox One.
Everything Rockstar has published lists GTA 6 exclusively for current-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Considering the density and technical complexity visible in the game, a previous-generation release now appears extremely unlikely.
What About GTA 6 Online?
This is another major unanswered question.
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 as a single-player experience, but has not yet fully revealed the next generation of GTA Online or explained exactly how online multiplayer will work with GTA 6.
Considering the enormous success of GTA Online, a major online component would hardly be surprising.
But until Rockstar announces it, details regarding player counts, map access, progression and launch timing remain unknown.
