So PlayStation just dropped a State of Play, and honestly the biggest thing to come out of it wasn’t what anyone expected. Sony Santa Monica revealed God of War: Laufey — a brand new PS5 entry in the franchise, and this time Kratos is nowhere to be seen. The main character is Faye. Yeah, that Faye. Kratos’s wife who’s been dead since the opening minutes of the 2018 game.
They showed 20 full minutes of gameplay during the presentation. The demo apparently starts right at Faye’s death scene from GoW 2018, then suddenly she’s alive again — captured by some mysterious faction we know nothing about yet. Combat looks melee-focused, Faye taking on all kinds of otherworldly enemies, and honestly the footage looked polished as hell for what’s presumably still in development.
Cory Barlog is reportedly back involved too, which makes sense — he directed the 2018 reboot and sat out Ragnarök. Having him return for what’s essentially a whole new chapter feels right.
There were hints this was coming. A former Santa Monica writer’s LinkedIn mentioned a “new franchise within the God of War universe” a few months back, and now here we are.
No release date yet, but it’s PS5 exclusive. Will post more as details come in — this one’s worth keeping an eye on.
